Medic Aid Response Systems® was created in 1989 to be the leading Canadian distributor of medical alarms. These products provide comfort, security and safety for our senior citizens through a national dealership network. Our extensive demographic analysis confirms that the senior population base will expand significantly during the next decade. As well, market research confirmed the need of seniors and their children to source protection against accident, intrusion, fire, and health failure. It is a recognized fact that seniors wish to retain their independence by remaining in their own homes. New innovative technology was one way by which this objective could be accomplished.
Medic Aid began by selling and renting medical alarms to seniors, thereby providing them with the security and comfort of knowing that HELP was only a ‘push of a button’ away! Naturally, each of these medical alarms requires twenty four hour monitoring seven days a week. Medic Aid began operations by having each of these units monitored by individual monitoring stations across the country. It quickly became evident, however, that Medic Aid should provide specialized monitoring services. This would result in better and more personal service for the clients of Medic Aid at a minimal cost.
To enhance the quality of this important service, the Company several years ago went into partnership with Armstrong's Monitoring, located in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Moncton, New Brunswick. Armstrong's at that time was and still is the largest, fastest growing and most technologically advanced U.L.C. rated monitoring station, east of Montreal. With the staff being completely bilingual, the services that they have provided over the past several years have proven to be distinguished beyond our expectations. We often receive calls from our clients, expressing their appreciation for the extra effort that an operator took, during their period of distress. I am proud to state that we have yet to receive a complaint of any kind from the several thousand clients that we have located across this vast country.
Through the use of special identification codes, our electronic receivers are capable of highlighting the special needs of each individual client. Direct voice communication with our monitoring station enhances the comfort zone for our clients when they activate their unit and this service adds a very personal touch.
All the input of data for each of our clients is performed at our National Office through a direct line to the central computer at Armstrong's Monitoring. To ensure immediate connection of a unit, each of our individual Dealers and Service Representatives either phones or faxes all important information to Armstrong's, at the time of the installation. Every activity, from every unit across the country, is recorded at the time of the event and faxed to both the local representative and our National office, immediately upon conclusion of the event. Our Director of Operations reviews these each morning and takes any additional action that she deems might be necessary.
In order to provide an expanded product line to our clients, in 1997 Medic Aid Response Systems® became affiliated with Mytrex Systems Engineering located in Utah, in the United States. Mytrex is the second largest provider of P.E.R.S. (Personal Emergency Response System) equipment throughout the States and through our association has provided marketing and product leasing and rental programs to our Distributors, Dealers and non-profit organizations. Our business relationship has resulted in an expansion of our network and our ability to secure the finest products at very competitive prices. The product Research and Development department at Mytrex is ongoing with impressive improvements to the units, often being announced.
Present Day Medic Aid
Seniors account for almost 24% of our population across the country. Within the next five years this number will increase quite dramatically.
Over the past 12 years Medic Aid has carefully selected it's licensed Dealers to represent our Company in Canada. Each of these is not only individually successful but through the service that they provide, often receive referrals from their clients. This has resulted in our reputation being continually enhanced which, when combined with our competitive pricing, has resulted in the Company holding an important position in the P.E.R.S. industry within Canada.
Being completely Canadian owned and operated, represented by Canadians across the country and providing the best bi-lingual monitoring service, our team has every reason to be proud.
Through the use of modern technology the Company is now in a position to mail or courier orders for units anywhere in the country. They are simple to install and provide comfort and security for both the client and members of their family. Our seniors have demonstrated their desire to stay in their own homes for as long as it is possible. The use of one of our systems, makes this possible. They are as close as the pendant which they wear around their neck or if the wish, on their wrist. Once activated, they know that someone will know that they are in need of assistance.
With the annual migration of nearly a million Canadians south each winter, each of our systems can accompany the client to their winter residence. All it requires is a phone call to the local representative or the monitoring station, which will make the necessary arrangements. Upon arrival in the warmth, south of our border, the system is re-installed and tested. Our international 1-800 number permits the client to make changes to the names of the contacts that they wish to be notified in the event of an emergency, at no additional cost.
